Avi Hoffman Tevye born 'Avrum Ber', son of Mendl and Miriam Hoffman, in 1958 in The Bronx, NY. A child of Holocaust survivors, Avi was taught at an early age to appreciate the beauty and depth of the Jewish culture, literature, music and tradition. At age 8, he performed his first 'TEVYE' in a children's production in the Bronx.By 1969 his family had moved to Israel, and over the next 9 years Avi continued to perform in dozens of Hebrew and English plays, as well as two Israeli television series and a film - BLOOMFIELD - directed by and starring Richard Harris. In 1977, he returned to the US and got his BFA in Drama from the U. of Miami, graduating cum laude. He acted in regional theater in Florida, returning to NY in 1980, honing his craft by working for years in JCC's, Y's and senior citizen centers, performing for the elderly who couldn't make it to the theater. As a stage actor he has performed in several Off-Broadway productions including his hit one man shows TOO JEWISH? & TOO JEWISH TWO!, both of which were highly acclaimed and for which he was named Performer of the Year '95 by NY Press Magazine, as well as receiving the prestigious Los Angeles OVATION award as Best Actor In a Musical 2001 . He was also nominated for both the NY Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards. He directed and performed in the Joseph Papp production of SONGS OF PARADISE at the NY Shakespeare Festival/Public Theater, which was also featured at major festivals in Munich and Amsterdam. He was seen in the revival of Jerry Herman's MILK AND HONEY, the title role in THE RISE OF DAVID LEVINSKY (opposite Lawrence Luckinbill and Larry Kert), A RENDEZVOUS WITH GOD (his other one-man show), THE GOLDEN LAND and FINKEL'S FOLLIES with the Emmy award winning veteran actor Fyvush Finkel (Picket Fences).On TV, Mr. Hoffman's Too Jewish? and Too Jewish, Too! are currently being broadcast nationally on the PBS system. He was featured as 'Teddy Wayne' in the NBC series LAW AND ORDER. He starred in the motion picture - THE IMPORTED BRIDEGROOM, which received critical acclaim nationwide and was featured at the Montreal and Boston Film Festivals. Avi was also seen in the PBS documentary THEY CAME FOR GOOD: A HISTORY OF THE JEWS IN THE U.S. Regionally, he most recently starred in the GableStage productions of ADDRESS UNKNOWN and A BAD FRIEND, Palm Beach Dramaworks production of JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL... (Carbonell award Best Musical), and as Johnny in FRANKIE & JOHNNY IN THE CLAIR DE LUNE at GableStage (Carbonell award nomination for Best Actor in a Play), he directed and starred in the English revival of SONGS OF PARADISE at the Caldwell Theatre in Boca Raton, and was seen as TEVYE in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (for which he received the Curtain Up award and was nominated for a Carbonell award - Best actor in a musical) and CLOSER THAN EVER at the Hollywood Playhouse, and many other productions around the country. In the music and recording industry, Avi was the lead singer of the 10 piece Don Byron Klezmer Orchestra (Elektra/Nonesuch). Playing the music of Mickey Katz, they have performed on Late Night with Conan O'Brian (NBC), at Avery Fisher Hall, Summerstage in Central Park, the Montreal, Quebec and JVC Jazz Festivals as well as 2 major European tours. Avi thanks PPTOPA for the opportunity to work, yet again, with his lovely wife Laura and his beautiful daughters Arielle and Liana. Laura Turnbull Golde is so happy to be appearing for the first time with her daughters Arielle and Liana, and lucky enough to play Golde again to her real life “Tevye”, Avi Hoffman. Laura just completed a successful run of “Blithe Spirit” at the Caldwell Theatre. where she was seen last year in “Enchanted April”. This past fall she and Avi appeared opposite each other at the Hollywood Playhouse in “The Apple Tree: Previous shows together include: “Closer Than Ever” (Hollywood Playhouse), “Jacques Brel” (Palm Beach Dramaworks), “Frankie and Johnny”, (Gablestage), and “Finkel's Follies” (Off Broadway). This summer she gets to be a part of Miami’s City Theatre “Summer Shorts” company. Laura has also worked at Actor’s Playhouse and Florida Stage. She’s won three Carbonell and two Curtain Up Awards for her performances in “Crimes of the Heart”, and “Blood Brothers”, (both at the Shores Performing Arts Theatre), and “The Goat” (Gablestage). Certainly her most challenging role has been that of Mommy to her two incredible daughters, but it’s one she’s rewarded by everyday. Teal LynLy Crossin Tzeitel is a graduate of Roger Williams University with B.A. in Theatre. Some of her favorite appearances have included Cabaret, Kiss Me Kate, Guys and Dolls, The Goodbye Girl, and Anna Karenina. She was last seen in the PPTOPA production of Beauty and the Beast. She would like to thank everyone at PPTOPA for giving her the opportunity to play Tzietel. Teal thanks her family and friends for their love and support and especially thanks the Box Office Staff at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts for putting up with her hectic schedule! Arielle Hoffman Shprintze is an 11 year old 6th grader who loves acting. She was seen last year as Eulalie McKechnie Shin in the Coral Park Elementary School production of Music Man and before that as Lily St. Regis in Annie and as Dorothy in ‘The Wizard of Oz’. 2 years ago she was a Munchkin in PPTOPA’s production of Wizard of Oz. She was the Shoemaker’s Wife in ‘Shoemaker and the Elves’ at the Ft. Lauderdale Children’s Theater. She has been playing violin for over 4 years and has performed in the All County Orchestra at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts. Liana Hoffman Bielke is 7 years old and is very excited to be in Fiddler on the Roof with her parents and sister. Her voice was most recently heard as Daphne in the Caldwell Theater production of Blithe Spirit and she portrayed a ‘Lullaby League’ Munchkin in her very first production - PPTOPA’s Wizard of Oz. She is a 2nd grader at Coral Park Elementary, where she loves to read and write. She plays the piano, and is a great bicycle rider and loves gymnastics. Melanie Leibner Hodel is excited to be performing the role of Hodel in her second appearance with PPTOPA. She was last seen as Belle in Beauty and the Beast with PPTOPA and at the Hollywood Playhouse performing the role of Luciana in The Comedy of Errors. Melanie graduated from The Boston Conservatory with a Masters of Music in Musical Theatre, playing roles in diverse shows from Candide to A…My Name is Alice. In Philadelphia, she appeared in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Vagina Monologues. Melanie earned her BA from the University of Pennsylvania where she enjoyed playing Winnifred in Once Upon A Mattress, Mary in The Secret Garden, Katisha in The Mikado, and Cinderella in Into The Woods. She would like to thank her family and friends for their love and support. James Cichewicz Perchik is President of PPTOPA and Executive Director of PPTOPA@Cooper City Theatre. James was last seen at PPTOPA@Cooper City Theatre in I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, John & Jen and Same Time Next Year; regionally as Cliff in Cabaret, Kit in No Way to Treat a Lady and Simon in A Stoop on Orchard Street. His most recent roles at PPTOPA were the Beast in Beauty and the Beast, Billy in Carousel, Tateh in the highly successful production of Ragtime, Sweeney in Sweeney Todd, Percy in The Scarlet Pimpernel and critically acclaimed, title role, in Jekyll & Hyde. James would like to thank his family, especially his children for all of their support in pursuit of his theatrical dream. He dedicates this performance to his great-grandfather, Ralph Sinclair. Sheryl Campo Yente is delighted to be playing Yenta the Matchmaker for the second time. She first appeared in this role in 2003 with Broward on Broadway’s production of Fiddler on the Roof. She recently appeared as Mae Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie, also with Broward on Broadway. Sheryl loves dancing for the Lord and has been active in the dance ministry of Temple Aron HaKodesh for the past 15 years. She has also had the privilege of appearing in two cooking segments and in six commercials for the nationally syndicated Jewish Jewels TV program. When she is not at rehearsals or at Temple services, she can be found at the Jewish Jewels ministry in Ft Lauderdale, where she was just promoted to Administrator. Alvin E. Entin Lazar Wolf all of his life Alvin has wanted a Patek Phillipe Timepiece but he never imagined that he would be playing one in Pembroke Pines. Alvin is no stranger to the PPTOPA stage having most recently been seen as FDR in ANNIE. Alvin has delighted and entertained audiences in his portrayals of Sheridan Whiteside in The Man Who Came to Dinner and Mathew Harrison Brady in Inherit The Wind. Other PPTOPA shows include Camelot, A Funny Thing..., L'I'll Abner, Sound of Music, Fiddler, My Fair Lady, Anything Goes, Crazy For You, Jekyll and Hyde and Scarlet Pimpernel. He was nominated for a Sabrina Award for his performance last season as Major General Stanley in Pirates of Penzance. Alvin dedicates his performance in this show to his wife Lois and their six wonderful children. Finally, he is proud that his twin sons Edmund and Gary have recently completed their first film Simple Joys which they wrote and directed. Norman S. Rotkowitz Laser Wolf/ Ensemble is making his debut with PPTOPA. He was last seen in Joseph And the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Credits include Sam Byke “Assassins” Sanco Panza Man Of La Mancha Teddy Brewster, Arsinic & Old Lace, Tevya, Fiddler on the Roof, The Mailman, The Most Happy Fella , Beatle Banford Sweeny Todd, Sepios Latisloffe She Loves Me. Several childrens’ theater productions, Treasure Island, Babes in Toyland, Norm is a Brooklyn native now making his home in Florida. Norm studied method acting under Sonia Moore, And Voice With Sue Seton, (High Baratone) He is also a graduate of the New York School Of Visual Arts.( BFA.) & A Graphic Artist. Keith Kramer Constable is currently Business Vice President of PPTOPA, and has recently directed “Broadway Bound”, his other directorial accomplishments are Biloxi Blues, The Scarlet Pimpernel and Inherit the Wind, Mr. Kramer was also the assistant Director with Jekyll and Hyde the Musical. Mr. Kramer has also appeared in Annie as President Roosevelt, Arsenic and Old Lace as Teddy Roosevelt, Lil Abner as Earthquake Magoon, Can’t Take it with you as Mr. Kirby, Wizard of Oz as the Tin man, Guys and Dolls as Big Julie, and in the ensemble for the following shows; Ragtime, Carousel, A Funny Thing happened on the way to the Forum, Camelot, Fiddler on the Roof, Crazy for you, My Fair Lady, Anything Goes, and the King and I. Mr. Kramer also provides for the Sound Engineering for a variety of PPTOPA’s shows. Claire Cohen Grandmother Tzeitel after retiring from the School Board of Broward County, Claire used her skills as a guidance counselor and therapist to begin her acting career. Inspired by her performance in June Taylorâ SHOWOFFS, Claire was drawn to such character roles as an Irish Maid/Killer in THE BUTLER DID IT, a barfly in the film THE POSER, Grandma in WOMEN AND WALLACE, Bottom in A MIDSUMMERS NIGHT DREAM, an Italian grandma in OVER THE RIVER AND THOUGH THE WOODS , a Jewish matriarch in FANNIE AND SADIE and now as Grandma Tzeitel in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Jerry Weinberg Avram is pleased to be returning to PPTOPA where he played Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd. He has appeared locally in South Pacific (Emile DeBeque) Oliver (Bill Sykes), The King and I (Kralaholm), Mouse Trap (Major Medcalf), Ten Little Indians (Judge Wargrave), Wait Until Dark (Harry Roate), A View From the Bridge (Alfieri), and Assasins (Proprietor). In real life, Jerry is a Vice President at Merrill Lynch, Aventura and would like to thank Delly for her patience, love and support of his vocation and avocation. Peter Librach Mordcha is making his debut with PPTOPA recreating the role he played in the Hollywood Playhouse Production in 2001. Peter just completed a production of Neil Simonms THE SUNSHINE BOYS in the role of Ben Silverman. New York, regional and South Florida acting credits include the National Tour of GODSPELL, two different roles in CABARET, EQUUS, CARNIVAL, SHOW BOAT, FUNNY GIRL, THE SUBSTANCE OF FIRE, THE BOYS IN THE BAND, Danny Gogginms MESHUGGAH-NUNS and FIDDLER starring his partner Avi Hoffman among many others. Peter currently serves as the Associate Executive Director for the National Center for Jewish Cultural Arts where he works producing theater and television and representing about fifty Jewish cultural acts continent wide. He would like to thank Alvin and James for this experience and his partner and friend Avi Hoffman for pretty much everything. He would also like to thank his fantastic wife Wendi and daughters Anne and Julie for their never ending love and support. Wendi Librach Shaindel in South Florida Wendi has previously been seen in" Bye Birdie" (Gloria) Mame (Pageen), The Odd Couple (Cecily Pidgeon) Oliver, Annie, and "How to Succeed in Business" This is her first stage appearance with PPTOPA as well as sharing the stage with her beloved husband Peter. Michele Perkins Fruma-Sarah is excited to be back onstage at PPTOPA. She was last seen as Dionne in the musical Hair. PPTOPA roles include Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd and Mother (understudy) in Ragtime. Thanks to John for making me look scarier than usual. She would also like to thank her students for constantly challenging and inspiring her. I learn from you as much as I teach. John Perkins Mendel is proud to be back at PPTOPA after playing Lefou in Beauty and the Beast. Other roles include Younger Brother in Ragtime and ensemble in Sweeney Todd. He would like to thank his favorite sister Michele and his girlfriend Melanie for putting up with him. Joe Ferrel Ensemble has been involved in the majority of PPTOPA productions since 1997 as an actor, set designer, and/or stage manager. He is also on the Board of Directors of PPTOPA, and is currently its Treasurer. Most recently, he was seen in Carousel, Huckabee in Main Street Players' The Fantastiks, and Uncle Arvide in Broward on Broadway's Guys and Dolls. Joe was the principal designer of the sets for the critically acclaimed Jekyll and Hyde, and Scarlet Pimpernel. Daniel Gomez Ensemble is thrilled to be working with Avi Hoffman again. He recently appeared at Florida International University in scenes from RENT, Tick..Tick..BOOM!, Jekyll and Hyde and The Last 5 Years. He also performed in Elena Garcia's African Dance Ensemble. His other credits include: Stage Manager for Florida International University's Taming of the Shrew and Production Assistant for GableStage's Brooklyn Boy and Address Unknown. Daniel dedicates this performance to the Biegens and Glucksmans for their continued support and for making him "too Jewish". Michelle Gioulakis Ensemble is pleased to perform in her second production with PPTOPA. Previous credits include Ragtime, Aida, Stop the World I want to Get Off, Yesterday's Good Girl, The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd. Michelle dedicates her performances to the memory of her grandparents, Russian immigrants, who found freedom and new lives in America. Jay Maxwell Ensemble has been an active board member with PPTOPA for the past 9 years. jay is proud to be producing this wonderful show and working with 2 such great performers as Avi and Laura. As usual, Jay dedicates this show to his loving daughter Lauren who inspired him in doing Fiddler back in 1996 and hasn’t stopped since. Melanie Juli Ensemble is delighted to be making her first appearance with PPTOPA! Melanie is no stranger to the stage and has been performing since the age of three. Having recently relocated from NY, she is currently working on her BA in Music and Theatre at Florida Atlantic University. Favorite Roles have included Rizzo in Grease, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, Maria in The Sound of Music, Hodel in Fiddler on The Roof, as well as the title role in Gypsy. She also had the honor of performing at the famed Carnegie Hall in 2001. Love to family and friends-L'Chaim!! Kelsie Templin Ensemble is thrilled to be appearing in her second PPTOPA production. Kelsie is a ten year old fifth grader at Silver Palms Elementary school. She is an honor role student who enjoys singing and soccer. She is also a Girl Scout and plays the guitar. She was last seen in the PPTOPA production of Annie. She would like to thank her friends, teachers, and parents for supporting her love of acting. Elsbeth Kinsey Scott Ensemble is a 6th grade student, plays the baritone horn, is a hip-hop dancer and a Girl Scout. Loves animals and has a few of her own. She is a student with PPTOPA and has been looking forward to making her debut in Fiddler on the Roof. Break a leg Elsbeth, we love you. Bernard Lawrence Rabi a member of the PPTOPA board, I have the privilege of working with a great group of people. .. I have performed for past 15 years with the Century Village Repertory group, as well as the Kings and the Royal ladies singing assembly. In addition I have appeared with PPTOPA acting group in Beauty and the Beast, Annie, Carousel, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Jekyll and Hyde, My Fair Lady, Anything Goes, Arsenic and Old Lace, Lil Abner. Other credits include, The Jazz Singer, The Secret Garden, and The Loving Child. I would like to thank my wife Doris for her love, patience and support. Winifred Davis Ensemble has been in Junior Miss(High School), Anything Goes, Barry University Choir(Ahamal and the Night Visitors), Annie, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver; Performed at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Inherit the Wind. I studied voice for 40 years, and I play the guitar and the piano. I am presently teaching First Grade at an inner city school in Miami. In my spare time I square , folk and ballroom dance. I would like to thank you and Florence and the entire board for all the time and energy that you all put in to bring the joy and delight of community theatre to all of us who love what you do. Marla Stanley Ensemble is very excited to debut with PPTOPA. Marla is an educator at Falcon Cove Middle School. She motivates her students through the “magic" of learning. Marla has previously played a Sweet Apple city folk in Bye Bye Birdie, Madame Branislowski in Mame, Maude in The Music Man, and Gertie Cummings (the Cummings Girl) in Oklahoma. She has assisted backstage and with costumes in Camp Blue Star’s production of Peter Pan. She truly appreciates the loving support of her Husband, Ira and children, Michael, Michelle, and Matthew. Aprilrose Manza Ensemble is pleased to be back with PPTOPA. She has been seen in Sweeney Todd, Ragtime, Pirates of Penzance, Once Upon A Mattress, Music Man and Little Shop Of Horrors. She has traveled through out Florida with a professional touring co. performing in such shows as Guys & Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof, Carousel and West Side Story. She has also directed and produced a production of Barefoot In The Park for her company Teens On Stage. (teensonstage.com). She would like to thank her parents, family & friends for all their support. Jessica Wolland Ensemble is proud to be performing with PPTOPA after her debut performance in Beauty and the Beast. Jessica has enjoyed lead roles in many productions including the role of Peter in Peter and the Wolf and Raja in I NEVER SAW ANOTHER BUTTERFLY. Jessica is an experienced ballerina who began dancing at the age of 2. She now teaches dance at Lehrman Day School, MARJCC, and the North Miami Community Center. She is a prima ballerina who is hoping to spread her wings as an actor and singer. She dedicates her performance to her Mom and her Grandma Bea. Tyler Wolland Ensemble is proud to make his debut theatrical performance in PPTOPA's Fiddler on the Roof starring Avi Hoffman. An 8th grader in the gifted program at Indian Ridge middle school, Tyler is also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, certified scuba diver , and enjoys music, football, hockey, and computers. He is pleased to be appearing alongside his big sister Jessica for this special production. Michael Day Musical Director is a music graduate from McGill University in Montreal. He has performed and directed in a variety of settings for the last twenty years. For several years he has enjoyed working with all the talented players of this organization. (Sound of Music, Jekyll & Hyde, My Fair Lady, Scarlet Pimpernel, Crazy For You, Sweeny Todd, The Wizard of Oz, Ragtime and Carousel) He would like to thank his wife Janice for her ongoing love and support. Florence Andrews Special Assistant is the artistic director for PPTOPA and an active board member since 1993, when PPTOPA was first formed. She has directed many of PPTOPA’s shows. She also handles ticket & group sales, costumes, etc. She recently directed the highly successful, critically acclaimed, productions of Ragtime and My Fair Lady. Her entire life has been dedicated to the theatre. She dedicates this show to the memory of her father, mother, and two sisters, Eileen & Joan. |
