Theatre of the Performing Arts Audition information for our 2010 Fall
Show "Guys & Dolls"! Audition
Dates: Sunday, August 22nd from 1 - 5pm. Tuesday, August
24th from 7-10pm. Callbacks if needed will be Thursday, August
26th 7-10 pm.
Audition information is subject to change due to
weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Please check www.pptopa.com
prior to going to auditions.
Auditions are open to the public and anyone
may audition regardless of experience. Please bring a current
picture if available.
* PPTOPA is a
non-profit, community based, theatrical organization and actors are
NOT compensated for appearances.
Musical
Guidelines - Prepare 16 measures of an upbeat or 16
measures of a ballad in your key. It is recommended that the selection
is from the musical you are auditioning for, however, is not required.
We have listed suggestions from the show below for you to
reference. Choose a piece you are comfortable with and one that
shows off
your strengths Sheet
music is required; Cd's or a Capella may be
permitted, but not suggested. Be prepared to read cold from
the script. Familiarize yourself with the show if possible.

Sheridan Street, Pembroke Pines at the Susan B. Katz Theater located in
the FIU Campus. The theater is 1 mile West of I-75, at the corner
of 172nd & Sheridan Street.
Cast of Characters:
You
must be at least 16
years old on Jan. 1, 2010 to audition for this show.
Nicely-Nicely Johnson: Stage
age 30 to 50. Tenor to high B flat.
Audition song: Sit Down You're Rockin the
Boat. Best pal to Nathan Detroit
and owner of the funniest lines in the play. Comic timing a must.
Benny Southstreet: Stage age
20 to 50. Baritone to high G.
Audition Song: Any of the Men's Choices.
Nicley's pal. This guy really needs
to sing.
Nathan Detroit: Stage age 35
to 50. Baritone to High F.
Audition Song: Any of the Men's Choices . This guy is both funny and
romantic. Engaged to Adelaide for 14 years he is always looking for the
big
break he never seems
to get. Comic timing
a must.
Sky Masterson: Stage age 30
to 50. Baritone B to E flat.
Audition Song: I'll Know This guy is
the coolest guy on the planet! Has a
big story arch. Must go from, I don't need women to falling madly in
love in
the course of this show. Must be able to command that stage!
Arvide Abernathy: Stage age
55+.
Audition Song: Any of the Men's Choices
Older, wiser, leader of the
Salvation Army in Times
Square.
Family to Sarah Brown.
Sarah Brown: Stage age 25 to
35. Soprano to High A
Audition Song: I'll Know This
doll has the most to do in the entire
show.
Huge story arch where we see her play straight laced, tipsy,
heartbroken and
madly in love. Strong actress and singer.
Adelaide: Stage age 30 to 45. Mezzo to A
Audition Song: Sue Me Character
and comic timing. Articulation,
articulation, articulation. We are not looking for the heavy accented
comedy
voice from the film. Engaged to Nathan for 14 years. Really loves him
and we
need it to show. Good dancer a plus, but a good "mover" will work.
Hot Box Girls: Looking for 8.
Stage age 20 to 45. Good
to
Great Dancers
Audition Song: Any of the Women's Choices
In addition to the great Hot Box
numbers these dolls will play multiple roles in New York and Havana. Variety
of ages in this chorus line. Bring it ladies!
Salvation Army Girls: Looking
for 3. Stage age 25 to 70.
Audition Song: Any of the Women's Choices
In addition to the salvation Army
these dolls will play multiple parts in New York and Havana. General
Cartwright will be chosen from this group.
Lt. Brannigan: Stage age 35+
Audition Song: Any of the Men's Choices The
coolest copper in the Big
Apple.
Must command respect from Nathan and the guys. Though not a featured
singer
or dancer, must go through the singing and dancing audition.
The Guys: Looking for 16.
Stage ages 20 to 70. All voice ranges needed.
Audition Song: Any of the Men's Choices
These guys will make or break this
show. A variety of voices, ages and types from which will come Angie
the Ox,
Rusty Charlie, Big Jule and the other characters from Damon Runyon's
stories. All will multitask as tourists, waiters and many others. We are
looking for stage presence and ability to react.
Men's and Women's Song Choices at
Auditions:
If you are trying out for a role that says Men's or Women's choice, here

It is suggested that if you are a bass or baritone pick the Guys and
Dolls
audition song. If you are a tenor pick Sit Down You're Rockin' the
Boat. You
can also sing I'll Know. If you are a soprano pick I'll Know, if you
are an
alto pick Guys and Dolls.
You can also sing Rockin' the Boat if you want to ladies.
You are welcome to sing any song that shows your vocal range,
it does not have to be from the show.
